Draft of 2014-15 School Year Calendar #cesuvt #resvt #vted
The Champlain Valley Superintendents have drafted a school year calendar that looks different from our current structure. I am gathering feedback from constituents in order to determine if this change is in the best interest of students and families. To view a draft of the modified calendar, obtain background information and provide feedback, please go to the Chittenden East Supervisory Union Blog at http://www.cesu.k12.vt.us/.
Thank you,
John Alberghini, Superintendent
Lost and Found Last Chance! #resvt #cesuvt
The Lost and Found bin will get cleaned out one last time this school year.
On Friday, June 7th the lost and found bins will be put under the school
breezeway. You are welcome any time to come into school and look through
the bins for lost clothing or under the breezeway for you to claim your
child's belongings. If clothing is labeled all efforts are made to return it
to the child.
If it is not labeled and not claimed, clothes are donated to the school's
stockpile for kids who may need an extra clothing item. Then all items
left after that are donated to the Salvation Army.
So please come by and scope out the
bins before June 7th.

Round Church Artists at RES #resvt #cesuvt #vted
Last Wednesday, Ms. Erickson's and Ms. Darby's classes went on a field trip to the Round Church with Mrs. Elliott. They investigated how to discern original versus new parts of the facade, how to select individual views and perspectives from which to draw, and created en-plein-air pencil sketches, later completed in watercolor.

Getting to Know Us - Sherry Harris #resvt #cesuvt #vted
Hola, me llamo Sherry Harris. (My name is Sherry Harris). I live in Richmond with my husband, 14 year-old son, 12 year-old daughter and golden retriever puppy. I have taught elementary Spanish in the CESU district for seven years. This is my fourth year teaching Spanish at RES. I also teach Spanish at Smilie Memorial School in Bolton and at Brewster Pierce in Huntington.
I was born in Vermont and graduated from Colchester High school. I studied English literature at UVM and participated in the Buckham program, an academic scholarship for year-long study at the University of Kent in Canterbury, England. I love to travel. After UVM I lived in Colombia, SA for three years where I taught English and polished my Spanish. This past February break I explored the beautiful Guanacaste Penninsula of Costa Rica with my family. The trip was amazing and I loved being able to speak Spanish all the time. I feel lucky because I really love my job teaching kids not only the Spanish language, but also about the culture and geography of Spanish- speaking countries.

DCF Readers Meet the Challenge #resvt #cesuvt
Every year RES fourth graders have the opportunity to participate in the DCF (Dorothy Canfield Fisher) reading program. This voluntary reading program challenges Vermont fourth through eighth graders to read at least five books from a preselected book list, and then vote on a statewide winner. Twenty-seven RES fourth graders met the DCF reading challenge this year. Together they read or listened to over 13,000 pages of DCF books!
On Monday May 13 the DCF readers were treated to a pizza party with celebrity servers including their classroom teachers, their school librarian, and their principal. Please join us in congratulating them!
More information on the DCF reading program is available at the DCF website.

Getting to Know Us - Gigi Weisman #resvt #cesuvt #vted
My name is Gigi Weisman. I love to kayak and hike, watch the sunset on the lake and snowshoe and ski and cook - and eat! I have a wonderful book club and am an avid reader. I was an educational consultant hired by the district for over 20 years. RES was one of the schools I worked in over the years. Three years ago I was hired by CESU and was able to call RES my home base last school year. My favorite RES memory is the preschool dance parties! I spent many summers providing a camp program for children in the District and worked with the USDA program and local Congregational Church Mission Committee to insure that would happen. As part of that I have many happy memories like hiking in the summer with a group of children I had during the school year. It was always fun to provide children many various physical activities and watch them flourish.

The scholars and staff of Richmond Elementary School participated in an evacuation drill today. Getting to Know Us - Lise Erickson #resvt #cesuvt
Hello! I’m Lise Erickson, a fourth grade teacher at RES. I live in Richmond with my husband
and two dogs, a chocolate lab and a welsh corgi. Our son is currently away at college. When I
am not at school, I love gardening, cooking, photography and travel. Last summer we went to
Iceland and enjoyed exploring the unique landscape and fascinating history.
I came to Vermont to go to UVM and I earned a BA and an MBA there. I also have a Masters
in Education from Saint Michael’s College. I’ve been teaching third and fourth grade at RES
since 2000. Before that I taught grades 2-5 at other Vermont schools. I especially love
teaching Math and Science! I’m on the CESU District Science Committee and the RES
Educational Support Team.
Some of my favorite times are when my students are busy with hands-on science
experiments, or on a field trip to a museum or historic site, or getting together with our
Kinderbuddies to do projects, play games or explore outside. That’s why our class is
called the Explorers!
