**WHERE WILL THE MONEY RAISED AT THE FUN RUN GO THIS YEAR?

Darcie Rankin, enrichment teacher at RES, along with unified arts specialists: Joanna Elliot, Beth Redford, Brian Godfrey, Christian Arthur and Sherry Harris have planned an Artist in Residence for April 2015.  Richmond Elementary school students in Grades K-4 will all have an opportunity to take dance lessons with multicultural dance and drum ensemble Jeh Kulu.  Jeh Kulu is comprised of several well-known Master Artists from Guinea, West Africa, and many highly-trained American Artists, with extensive experience in the art form.  Students will be celebrating traditional West African music and dance!  In addition to these master art classes during this special artist in residence, students will be learning more about African culture during their unified arts classes.  This week of learning will be ended with an all school field trip to the Flynn Theater in order to see the African Children’s Choir.

Artist in Residence programs are unique and bring amazing new experiences to students through talented instructors.  This opportunity promises to be a great one for our school…..but we need your help!  The Fun Run is one way which we will be raising the money needed to fund this Artist in Residence.  We have also secured a grant to cover approximately half of the needed funds.   The Fun Run is a great community event….we hope you will participate to enjoy the event, as well as to support this unique art opportunity at RES.

If you have any questions, or wish to make an additional donation to support the Artist in Residence (every little bit helps!!), please contact Darcie Rankin, darcie.rankin@cesuvt.org.

Thinking Spring? Think Skiing!!! RES Snow Motion Fundraiser

Mr. Godfrey is working hard to bring skiing and snowboarding to all students at RES.  He has made a great video to describe his program...Check it out here:
http://resphyicaleducation.blogspot.com/2014/05/get-up-move-walk-thonfield-day-resvt.html

This winter RES piloted a ski/snowboard program at Cochran’s that we named Snow Motion, promoting life time fitness and increasing opportunities for physical activity in and out of the school day.  Snow Motion is free to scholars and occurs during the school day to eliminate barriers created by lack of equipment, transportation, disability, and other factors. (Currently, nearly 50% of our student population has never been on the slopes).

Please consider pledging to support this program.  Mr. G  has made it easy to donate online...so you can send this video and the below link to extended family members who would love to support RES, after you pledge your own support! Give those grandparents and aunts and uncles a chance to see the great activities that are happening at RES! Online pledges can be received here:
http://www.razoo.com/story/Res-Gets-Fit

OR Checks can be made out to Richmond Elementary School Note: Walk-a-Thon and sent to your classroom teacher at anytime!

** We want to keep our efforts both positive and safe, so ask that you do not do any door to door fundraising.  Feel free to ask family and friends if they would like to help support our efforts.  **

AND, Mr.G will work with any student or groups of students who are interested in customizing their own pages to send out to family and friends--just let him know at school or via email!

Thanks in advance for supporting an awesome, and growing, physical education program at RES!!!
