Message to RES Families #vted

August, 2015

To the Richmond Elementary School Learning Community,

Welcome to the 2015-16 school year. I can say with sincerity that the RES staff is excited and ready for the school year.  We’ve been working together as a learning community to continue our work with Writer’s Workshop, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and building a sense of community.  We welcome you all as a part of the team as we search out ways to support our scholars and families.

We pride ourselves on sharing the learning and celebrations of life at RES on a regular basis.  Please be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Google +, Instagram or at our blog featured on the main page of our website: http://richmond.k12.vt.us/ .  There is a subscription option in the upper right hand corner of the blog so all our news can be delivered directly to your inbox whenever there’s an update.  Our RESVT Podcast is also a great source of information and student learning; don’t miss it!

Each year we update information for our community and include it in our Richmond Elementary School Parent Handbook which can be found at https://goo.gl/y9ng0n or printed upon request.  In addition to these updates and information, Federal regulations require that schools provide a letter to parents prior to the start of the school year conveying certain information, including the school’s status in the federal accountability system.  Usually that would include information gained from the statewide assessment results.  Because of Vermont’s transition to a new assessment program, that information is not available to schools this year. Also, Vermont received a waiver allowing us to disregard the assessment results for accountability purposes in this first year of administration.  Richmond Elementary School’s AYP status has not changed from last year. We did not make AYP in Reading or Mathematics.  For more information please visit http://education.vermont.gov/data/accountability/reports.

We hope you’ve enjoyed the summer with friends and family, and are looking forward to the approaching school year.  We are excited to hear your great stories and learning together in the year ahead.  Thank you for your continued support of RES!

Sincerely,

Michael Berry, Principal
